Happy Spring and Hello Summer!

Can you tell I'm just a little excited about the warmer months and what lies ahead? What can I say? I'm a 'summer baby' who thrives in the heat!

As I was thinking about the beginning of the new seasons, a quote caught my eye today, and I became inspired in its reminder about the beginnings and endings in life.

"Every exit is an entry somewhere else" - Tom Stoppard

My mind fills with images -- moonrise to sunrise, pulling the weeds to make room for the flowers, dancing my heart out and later resting peacefully with my head on a comfy pillow, knowing rain will fall in my life, but if I hold out, there's a spot on a sunny beach somewhere with my name on it!

As you look ahead, don't be afraid to let go of the old in your life -- habits, routines, ways of thinking that could be holding you back from your wellness and life dreams. Know that if you have the courage to let them go - something new and better could be waiting for you on the other side!

Have a blessed and healthy day
and see you on the beach!

In the past...

In the past...

This is how a lot of the conversations I have with people start when the subject is losing weight, getting healthier or just feeling better. It is understandable, especially when the person in the mirror looking back at you is a stranger, or worse it feels like aliens, 10 pounds or more of them at least, have taken control of your body. Reaching back to grab on to something familiar is a natural reaction.

On the other hand, it's important to remember -- "You can never plan the future by the past." (Edmund Burke)

The past is simply that - the past - filled with great memories and unforgettable experiences never to come back in the way they existed. Instead of trying so hard to "get it all back", why not focus on the power to create what you want here and now? Reach out to the good things that are waiting for you, and make a promise to bring into your life all that you deserve.

There is a great possibility that the promise of what is yours to have today is more exciting and fulfilling then you ever could have expected, and the future is even better than you imagined. Just be sure you're facing in the right direction so you don't miss out, or worse, let your moment pass you by.

Welcome to Deborah's Nutrition and Wellness Journal

Welcome to my new health, nutrition and wellness journal!

My name is Deborah Crespo and I am a Registered Dietitian, Nutrition and Wellness Coach, and author of the recently released book Health & Wellness Style: The Smart Woman's Guide to Balance, Wellness and the Enjoyment of Food.

My interest in nutrition began over a decade ago, when after years of staying relatively fit, and never really having to worry about the number on the scale, I suddenly found myself with a tightening waist band. The weight gain and body size changes were due to no longer being 20-something, long hours, lack of sleep, convenience meals on the run, and stress eating or skipping meals to keep up with the pace. Finally, my body said, "Enough!" To make a long story short, I discovered natural approaches to wellness and nutrition that allowed me to get back on track, as well as led me to change careers, find my passion in assisting others, and build a company.

You may have also noticed that I am a Nutrition and Wellness Coach and may be curious as to what that means. As a Dietitian, I can provide you facts about eating healthy which are useful, but as The Coach, we work together to discover how to apply the information to your real life. It's about what inspires you. What it looks like, feels like, and tastes like to you to feel vibrant and alive. What you really want for yourself, and what you see as the vision for your full, abundant healthy life. In my opinion, understanding this is the key to making changes that have sticking power.

My book, Health & Wellness Style is a reflection of this philosophy. I work with clients through my company P.H.A.B. Nutrition, Inc. using one-on-one phone consultations or in person sessions at Savannah Integrative Medicine. We use The Book as your eight week guide on the path to creating wellness and weight management. If you're a man - don't worry - you're not excluded from the process. We simply use different resources other than the book to achieve the same goal.

Food brings us life, and life is often reflected in our connections to food. Through this journal, I hope we can explore how food isn't an enemy to be fought or feared, but instead can nurture, empower and energize us to lead our best lives. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, challenges and successes, as well as sharing my adventures with interesting people and places in promoting the book!

Yours in health and wellness,
Deborah
